During one of four PRAO-days in Brussels we, Nike Hansén and Ellinor Haapala, got the opportunity to acquaint with the European Parliament. The day was instructive, and we got really excited when the Torvalds Team invited us to their office.
This experience may not be one of the most ordinary ones – for two second-year students from Kronoby gymnasium who come from the countryside; EU is a thing that sometimes may feel quite distant. That’s why we wanted to send a request, if it was possible to visit when we once were in Brussels.
We got a small tour in the Parliament (which is huge!) by one of Torvalds parliamentary assistants Beata Björkvall and she told us about how things work out and what they do. We also got to take part of the work with Nya Europabladet.
Unfortunately the parliamentarians had a Green Week that week, which implies that they are back in their respective home countries. But it wasn’t a problem really – we had a phone conference with Torvalds – close enough!
We had a great, rewarding day, and it was a highly appreciated experience!
